Side bites are from my personal perspective as an admission paying fan, this page is like my own editorial column. I will share items that I really like to items that I do not like. Some may not agree with my likes or dislikes which is fine as that is why the title line states "A Fan Perspective". I read many other racing web sites and I also agree and do not agree with the issues they write. I do respect their opinions as that is their belief as we do agree on one thing and that is the passion we all have for auto racing.
The Iowa State Fair board revealed plans for the fairground updates which has totally eliminated the relocation of the race track. The CEO and every fair-board member that are responsible for destroying the history of auto racing at the Iowa State Fair grounds is forever on my list of most dirty unhanded corrupt people on the face of the earth. They used the media for two years and kept saying the new track will be built, this was just part of their plan all along to keep racers and race fans quiet until they could quietly without drawing media attention to what was planned for a location to their new fairground plan with no motorsports complex.
A promoter that does not listen to voice of several race fan and drivers that share a safety concern with the use of large tractor implement tires will not be getting my business any longer. These implement tires (aka assault tires) have cost drivers thousands of dollars in wrecked race cars and personal injuries. We lose drivers fast enough through the normal avenues of being priced out of the business, these tires just make racer quit sooner than they really want to and are just walking away from racing. I applaud the tracks that have switched from using these tires to using the road construction barrels or cones, I'll be more than happy to patronize your tracks.
Race tracks need to remain neutral, steering away from current events and welcoming to ALL people if auto racing is going to survive. When people are divided on issues away from racing and the track appears to take a stand on an issue that is a hot topic, are the tracks really telling about half the current fan base if you don't agree with the tracks stand then we really do not need fans with these different perspectives in our stands any more? Let's leave keep these issues away from racing and let the fans sit back and enjoy what has drawn them to watch a race, as is it a true love of the sport.
